Uttranchal Cities

  • Dehradun :- The capital of Uttaranchal is situated in the mountain range of the Himalayas. The city lies in the lap of Doon Valley on the division line of Ganga and Yamuna rivers.

  • Kumbh Mela :- Kumbha (Kumbha means pot) Mela is a sacred Hindu pilgrimage that takes place at the following four locations of India
  • Jauljibi and Thal fairs:-This fair is held every year in November at Jauljibi, the confluence ofthe rivers Kali and Gori, which is a meeting place of three different cultures - the Shauka, the Nepali and the Kumaoni.
  • The Uttarayani fair:-This fair is held in a number of places including Bageshwar, Rameshwar, Suit Mahadev, Chitrashila (Ranibagh) and Hanseshwar etc.
  • The Nandadevi fair :-The Nandadevi fair is held at Almora, Nainital, Kot (Dangoli), Ranikhet, Bhowali, Kichha and also in the far flung villages of lohar (like Milam and Martoli) and Pindar valleys (like Wachham and Khati).
  • Syalde Bikhauti :- It is celebrated on the Vishuwat Sankranti day and commemorates an ancient victory. On this day, the Bagwal is held at Syalde Pokhar in the old town of Dwarahat.

  • Ascot Sanctuary :- The Ascot Sanctuary, also known as the Ascot Muscat Sanctuary, is positioned at an elevation of 5412 feet, in the middle of a snow covered peak in the Kumaon region.
  • Corbett National Park :- This National Park is named after the famous hunter, Jim Corbett, who visited the place during his hunting expeditions.
  • Nanda Devi National Park :- Nestled amidst seventy lofty peaks, Nanda Devi National Park consists of verdant olive fields, soothing waterfalls and a rich collection of plants and animals.
  • Govind Wild Life Sanctuary :- Govind Wild Life Sanctuary in Uttaranchal was established in 1955, 1st March due to environmental reasons.
  • Assan Barrage :- The Assan Barrage in Uttaranchal serves as a winter passage halt for the trans-Himalayan migratory birds.
  • Rajaji National Park :- The animals found in Rajaji National Park consist of Yellow throated Martens, Cheetals, Barking Deer, Leopards, Langoors and Civets. The Pythons with their sluggish elegance offer a life time experience to the onlooker.
