  • Gangatok:- The capital of the state of Sikkim lies at an elevation of 1,780 m. It is a charming, laid-back town straddling a ridge with houses spilling down the hillside.
  • Pelling:- A small dwelling in about 118km from Gangtok is gradually developing as an urban settlement, due to heavy tourist inflow. Situated at an elevation of 2061m from the sea level, Pelling offers a vista of snow capped mountains ranges of Eastern Himalaya.
  • Versey:- Its is famous for the Rhododendron Sanctuary and a beautiful 4km trekking route from Hilley, will take one to the land of “ Guras ” (rhododendron).From an altitude of 3000m the beauty of Himalaya can be experienced.

  • Khecheopalri Lake:- Khecheopalri Lake is also known as the wishing lake. This unusually tranquil Khecheopalri Lake Sikkim is surrounded by blooming forest and is considered as one of the sacred lakes of Sikkim both by the Buddhist and the Hindus.

Fairs and Festivals in Sikkim

  • Bendenkhlam :- This festival takes place during the monsoon in July at Jowai and Tuber in the Jaintia Hills to invoke the blessings of the creator for a bountiful harvest.
  • Drukpa Tseshi :- This is a religious festival that marks the first preaching of the Four Noble Truths by Lord Buddha. It is celebrated in all the monasteries.
  • Guthor Chaam :- This festival is held at the Rumtek Monastery two days before Losar.
  • Losar :- It is the Tibetan New Year celebrated with lot of gaiety and festivity.
  • Losoong :- It is the Sikkimese New Year.
  • Pang Lhabsol :- This festival is celebrated to worship Kanchenjunga, the guardian diety of Sikkim.
  • Other Festivals :-Saga Dawa, Shad Suk Mynsiem, Tashiding Bhumchu, Tse-chhu Chham

Wildlife of Sikkim

  • Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary :- (located between Lachung and Yumthang) is home to the endemic Rhododendron niveum which has been designated the State Tree of Sikkim.
  • Kyongnosla Alpine Sanctuary :- The Kyongnosla Alpine Sanctuary (located near Tsangu Lake) has sheltered the Takin Budorcas taxicolor.
  • Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary :- The 104 sq. km Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary (located near Hilley in West Sikkim) is contiguous with the Singalila National Park in West Bengal.
  • Fambong Lho Wildlife Sanctuary :- Fambong Lho Wildlife Sanctuary (located near Rumtek/Martam in East Sikkim) and Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary (located above Rabongla in South Sikkim) are the two protected areas in the Sub-Tropical eco-region.
