Palitana - Shatrunjaya
Palitana is positioned 50 km South-West of Bhavnagar city and is one of the most important Jain pilgrim spots. Famous for its immense tourist places, Palitana is visited by both Indian Nationals and Foreigners alike.
Palitana is a famous Jain temple site and brings forth the delicate permutation of human endeavor, architectural skills and benevolence. The whole pinnacle of imposing mount Shatrunjaya is coroneted with about 900 temples, each contending the other for magnificence and brilliance. The sight leaves an awe-inspiring vision to devotees and visitors.
The mount Shatrunjaya is barely a kilometer away from Palitana and is connected with Rishabhdev, the first tirthankar. It is whispered among the tales that all the tirthankars, apart from Neminath, achieved nirvana here; conveying purity and earning a soubriquet of Siddhakshetra. The whole peak is enclosed with temples, and among them, the most well known are those of Vimalshah, Kumarpal, Adinath, Samprati Raja and the Chomukh.
Jain Temple
This is perhaps the best place of Tourist Attractions at Palitana. It is believed that a Jain must visit this temple once in his lifetime because that would guarantee his salvation. There are in total 900 temples that have been carved in marble. During the nights the priests at these temples are not allowed to sleep because the temple is considered to be the abode of Almighty and sleeping at night might make him angry. So, followers and priests alike remain awake during night at Palitana Temple.
