Hill Stations in Bihar

  • Brahmajuni Hill :- Brahmajuni Hill is situated 1 km south-west of Vishnupad Temple in the district Gaya of Bihar. This hill top is an important tourist spot which gives a great and elegant view of the town Gaya.
  • Gurpa Peak :- Gurpa is a sacred mountain situated in Gaya District. This magnificent mountain is associated with Maha Kassapa, the successor of Buddha.
  • Pragbodhi :- Pragbodhi mountain, popularly known as Dhungeswara, is situated close to Kiriyama village in Gaya. Lord Buddha had stayed in one of the caves in this mountain before attaining enlightenment
  • Pretshila Hill :- Pretshila Hill situated at Gaya is about 10 km from the Ramshila hill. There is a lake known as Brahma Kund just below this beautiful hill, where the people take bath and offer Pind Dan, a ritual done to satisfy the departed souls of ancestors and parents
  • Ramshila Hill :- Ramshila Hill is situated 5 km from Vishnupaada Temple in Gaya. One of the most sacred hills in Gaya District, with considerable antiquity, the hill is dotted with numerous stone sculptors.
  • Gridhakuta :- the hill is listed in Buddhist canonical texts as one of the places stayed in by the Buddha when at Rajgir; and several notable events, including an attempt on his life by his evil cousin Devadatta occurred there.

Fairs and Festivals in Bihar

  • Sonepur Cattle Fair :- Legend apart, the famous Sonepur fair in more of a cattle trading centre where incredible number of birds and cattle are brought from different parts of the country. Besides, the bewildering array of wares are on sale and add to this the numerous folk shows about which the BBC once remarked, "there’s nothing like the Sonepur Cabaret."
  • Nag Panchmi :- The rainy month of Sravana when there is danger of death from snake bite, people appease the snake god by offering milk during Nag Panchmi.
  • Makar Sankranti Mela :- Famous Makar Sankranti mela is another festival unique to Rajgir in the month of Paus, corresponding to mid January. Devotees make flower offerings to the deities of the temples at Hot springs and bathe in the holy water.
  • Gaya - Pitrapaksha Mela :- Arond september the sleepy town of Gaya is agog with people who come here for the famous Pitrapaksha mela or the ancestor worship typified in Sraddha ritual.

National Parks & Wild Life Sanctuary in Bihar

  • The Valmiki National Park :- The Valmiki National Park (335sq km) has been created amidst 544sq km of the Valmiki Sanctuary in the West Champaran district of Bihar, bordering Nepal. The magnificent Himalayas provide a backdrop to the sanctuary.
  • Rajgir Wildlife Sanctuary :- In the heart of Bihar lies the Rajgir Wildlife Sanctuary (36sq km), bordered by a stretch of small historic hills associated with Jain and Buddhist history.
  • The Hazaribagh Wildlife Sanctuary :- The Hazaribagh Wildlife Sanctuary (186sq km) and its surroundings continued to be the royal reserve of the Raja of Ramgarh until 1950.
  • Bhimbandh Sanctuary :- Close to Bhagalpur, the Bhimbandh Sanctuary (682sq km) is yet another home to a variety of wildlife.
  • Udhwa Lake Bird Sanctuary :- The Udhwa Lake Bird Sanctuary in Rajmahal Hills, incorporating the Pataura and Berhale lakes, is home to a variety of birds including different mynas, brahminy kites, fishing eagles, hose swifts and palm swifts flying at dizzying speeds.
